چکیده

Fuzzy Relational Inference (FRI) systems form an important part of approximate reasoning schemes using fuzzy sets. Especially, the compositional rule of inference (CRI) introduced by Zadeh has attracted the most attention so far. In this work we show that the FRI scheme based on the BandlerKohout subproduct along with a suitable realisation of the fuzzy rules, does possess all the important properties cited in favor of using CRI, viz., equivalent and reasonable conditions for their solvability, their interpolative properties and the preservation of the indistinguishability that may be inherent in the input fuzzy sets. Moreover, we show that under certain conditions the equivalence of First Infer Then Aggregate and First Aggregate Then Infer (FITA and FATI) inference strategies can be shown for the Bandler-Kohout subproduct (BK-Subproduct), much like in the case of CRI. Finally, by way of addressing the computational complexity that may exist in the Bandler-Kohout subproduct we suggest a hierarchical inferencing scheme. Thus this work shows that the BK-subproduct based FRI is as effective and efficient as the CRI itself.

Bandler-Kohout Subproduct with Yager's Classes of Fuzzy Implications

The Bandler–Kohout Subproduct (BKS) inference mechanism is one of the two established fuzzy relational inference (FRI) mechanisms, the other being Zadeh’s Compositional Rule of Inference (CRI). Both these FRIs are known to possess many desirable properties. It can be seen that many of these desirable properties are due to the rich underlying structure, viz., the residuated algebra, from which t...

An improved BK sub-triangle product approach for scene classification

Scene classification is a popular research topic in computer vision, and has received much attention in the recent past. Conventionally, scene classes are considered to be mutually exclusive. However, in real-world scenarios a scene image may belong to multiple classes, depending upon different perceptions of the masses. In this paper, we propose an improved Bandler and Kohout’s sub-triangle pr...

Power Sets and Implication Operators Revisited: A Retrospective Look at the Foundational and Conceptual Issues in Bandler and Kohout's Paper After 29 Years

In our case study we look at one of the early papers that interrelates the concept of fuzzy set inclusion, power set and many-valued implication operators, namely the paper of Bandler and Kohout [3]. This is followed by discussion of the subsequent related work by the fuzzy community.
